Dean Lewington thinks Oxford United go into tonight's League One play-off final against Wycombe Wanderers as favourites to earn promotion to the Championship.

The U's, led by former Dons boss Karl Robinson, saw off Portsmouth in the semi-finals, while Wycombe beat Fleetwood to set up the decider in the capital.

Robinson earned promotion to the Championship with Lewington and Dons in 2014/15 as they secured automatic promotion, but that sole season in the second tier is Robinson's only attempt so far at life outside of League One.

But with his first play-off final looming, Lewington believes his former boss will make a decent fist of life in the Championship should Oxford make it there.

"He's done well with Oxford, and I think they're probably the favourites to beat Wycombe and get to the Championship now," he said. "He still plays nice football, and even though he had to sell a few players in January, they are still doing the business out on the pitch.

"I think they've got a little bit of backing from their chairman too so if they get there, they might have enough to stay in the Championship.

"It'll be good for Karl as well, he has done a good job wherever he has been."
