Dean Lewington admitted he looks forward to his daily training sessions after the cornonavirus pandemic left the government urging people to stay at home for three weeks.

The Dons captain celebrated the birth of his second child less than a month ago so has had plenty to keep him occupied at home, especially with his first child still under three-years-old.

Despite the lockdown, the Dons players have been keeping active with personalised training schedules send to them, which they have to log.

Lewington admitted he looks forward to the sessions, as well as spending time with his young family, and says people have to remain positive during this time.

He said: "It's nice to have the kids around as well. When they're this young, they change so much so it's nice to be around them. We're all just trying to stay positive.

"We have an app, so we have to log what we do every day. It's nice at the moment, you actually look forward to going on your run because it's time out of the house, time outside. At the moment, we all just have to stay positive."

When football shut up shop on March 13 initially for three weeks, just a day before Dons' trip to Oxford United, Dons were given a week off from training ahead of a potential April 3 return. However, with no football until May at the earliest, Lewington admitted the players have to find a balance between maintaining their fitness and peaking too early before the season resumes.

He said: "It was a strange situation at first because we were told it would be three weeks, so we could just keep training, then it became longer, so we don't want to peak too soon during this time, so it's a bit like pre-season, especially with the weather.

"But at least with it being a few weeks still, we can clear our heads a bit, but we know we still have to be ready when we get the call to come back."
