Lewington wanted to play despite birth of his daughter

After being present for the birth of his daughter, Dean Lewington contacted Dons boss Russell Martin offering to play against Rotherham on Saturday.

Lottie Lewington was welcomed to the world during the early hours of Saturday morning, with the Dons skipper not travelling with the team to Yorkshire to be there alongside partner Gemma.

Following the birth though, Martin said he heard from Lewington who offered to make the journey to meet up with the squad and to play.

"He still wanted to come yesterday, the mad-man!" said Martin. "I'm delighted for him, and the lads managed to get a point for their skipper. Huge congratulations to him and Gemma on the birth of their second child. There are more important things than football, not many, but there are, so we're all really pleased for him."

Lewington's absence meant a defensive reshuffle for Martin. Joe Walsh returned to the side after spending a month on the bench, shifting George Williams over to left-back.

"We had to do a lot of tweaking today, and we looked a bit disjointed, Willo being out of position, but it just adds to how big the point is."

Callum Brittain also made his return but played on the right of the Dons attacking trio - a significantly different position to his regular rightback spot.

Martin added: "We spoke to him about it in the week, we worked on it, he looked comfortable and I thought he oput in a great shift. We didn't get him enough of the ball in the right areas. He's one of our best footballers, his best work comes in the attacking half and he plays on the right. So while we had Carlton out, it made sense.

"It was nice to get him back in and he helped play a big part in getting us getting a valuable point."
