FULL TIME: MK Dons 1-2 Sunderland
Key Events
- Liam Manning takes charge of his first game since taking over
- It’s defeat for the new man though
53 mins: Sunderland score again
Waiting for an offside flag that never came, Dons’ defence were statues as Elliot Embleton doubles Sunderland’s lead. The entire back line stared at the linesman as Embleton raced clear into the penalty area, dropped a shoulder to commit Fisher before neatly lifting the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
47 mins: Jules goes into the book
First yellow card of the afternoon goes to Zak Jules.
Shaky start to the second half so far for Dons.
HALF TIME
A frustrating end to the half for Dons, having matched Sunderland all the way so far.
Good chances for Twine weren’t capitalised on, and Stewart, who has had no change out of Darling all day, managed to nick half a yard to prod in the only goal of the half just before the break.
Still all to play for though,
42 mins: Sunderland go in front
Dons just saw a chance from Scott Twine go narrowly wide, and they’ve been made to pay as the Black Cats take the lead just before the break.
A cross was fired into the box low, Fisher dives but can only parry it, Ross Stewart gets in ahead of Harry Darling and prods it into the empty net.
30 mins: Still a tight affair
Dons having some decent time on the ball, looking to cause a few problems for the Sunderland defence. Harvie’s cross took a touch off a Sunderland defender and took it out of reach of both Eisa and Parrott, while Watson ghosted in at the far post but somehow fired out for a throw.
Scott Twine has also had a free-kick from about 30-yards, but after his wonderful effort last week at Bolton, this one was straight forward for Sunderland keeper Burge to gather.
20 mins: Tackles are flying in
It’s got a real zip about it, this game. Both sides really throwing themselves into some challenges. Jules vs Gooch is still bubbling along nicely, and Ethan Robson has just won a big 50/50 with Corry Evans. Not many chances still, Fisher has had to block one out from a Sunderland corner, but nothing really to cause much of a threat.
Remains 0-0.
10 mins: A bright start for both sides
Not many chances in the opening 10 minutes, but both sides have postured well. Zak Jules vs Lynden Gooch could be a good one to watch, the Dons defender so far having the better of the exchanges. Sunderland though have won a few corners but are yet to really threaten.
