The League One table

Full time: Wigan 3-0 MK Dons

One to forget, that’s for sure. Never at the races all afternoon. Down to 16th in the table.

84 mins: Another one off the woodwork

It’s coming all too late for Dons, but Fraser cracks one against the bar from range. The ball stays in play, and Surman eventually fires wide.

That puts the bow on an utterly disastrous showing here. Fisher’s pass was loose, it’s three on two, Solomon-Otabor pulls it back for Dodoo, Darling can do nothing to block it on the line.

MK Dons well out of this now (they probably were before too but...)

65 mins: Wigan double the lead

It’s their first sniff of goal in this half, but they’re 2-0 up. Scott Fraser is robbed of the ball about 30 yards out, it’s worked wide to Massey, who whips the ball into Callum Lang to head into the top corner.

60 mins: A third change

Joe Mason’s running for the afternoon is over, Cameron Jerome replaces him up front.

55 mins: A much better go of it from MK Dons

Already, in this opening 10 minutes of the second half, it’s a significant step from Dons. Surman is running the show, starting a bit deeper than Houghton was and sparking things forwards. The passing is better, the space is opening up more too. They just need to get a bit braver in front of goal and have a few shots.

47 mins: Close from Mason

A close call for Mason as he finds space on the edge of the box for Laird’s cut-back but his effort is just wide of the post, with Jones pinned to the spot.

Wigan restart the game, ahead 1-0.

Half time: Wigan 1-0 MK Dons

They look significantly better since those changes but that’s as poor a first half from MK Dons as you’ll have seen for a long time. Nervous, slow, poor to pass, first touches all over the place. Wigan looked more lively and eager for the duration and gave Dons no room to do what they like to do. Houghton and Harvie were sacrificed and it made an immediate impact as the visitors suddenly looked like they had a clue of what to do.

Laird and Darling both came close to finding an equaliser, while they could have had a penalty too but they go in trailing at the break.

MK Dons are furious here as they want a penalty. Fraser is fouled on the edge but play on is waved, the cross is blocked by a Wigan arm in the box but the free kick is given.

43 mins: Darling hits the post

What a strike from the defender! Harry Darling has hit that from 30 yards or so, it’s whipped through the air and it’s hit the post

38 mins: Dons get a shot on target

They’ve looked a lot better since the changes, with a lot more forward intent and a lot more urgency. Ethan Laird gets their first attempt on target with a left-footed effort tipped over the bar by Jamie Jones.

35 mins: From attack to defence

Scott Fraser and Matt O’Riley combined for the latter to get a shot away but it’s blocked and Wigan can break. Gavin Massey is left open in the penalty area to shoot but Fisher makes a great double save to prevent the hosts going 2-0 up.
