DOMINIC Lawless scored a hat-trick as Newport Pagnell Town cruised into the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a 6-1 thrashing of Reading Town on Saturday.
The Swans took their Hellenic League hosts apart in the extra preliminary round tie, setting up a home clash against Ardley United who beat Holyport 4-2. The game will be played at Willen Road on August 25.
Lawless got Newport on their way 10 minutes in at Reading before Daren Dykes added a second visiting goal two minutes before the hour mark.
Ross Baker replied for Reading after 59 minutes, but within 60 seconds Richard Armstrong restored the Swans’ two-goal advantage.
And Newport doubled their tally in the last 10 minutes – Lawless scoring his second goal after 80 minutes before Keith Williams got in on the act after 89 minutes and Lawless bagged his third in added time.
Also in FA Cup action were Cranfield United who were beaten 2-0 at Biggleswade United.
Meanwhile Saturday saw the start of the South Midlands League Division One season for Stony Stratford Town who, under new boss James Cain, crashed 5-0 at home to Southall.
