"You could write up something you've written numerous times this season," said Dons boss Russell Martin after his side lost to Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.

Liam Millar scored the only goal of the game after 18 minutes for Charlton as they inflicted a reverse result to the one Dons handed down at The Valley last month.

But it was a case of the same old story for Martin - losing out to a relatively early strike before dominating the possession stats, unable to breakdown the opposition who looked content to absorb pressure with numbers behind the ball.

Martin said: "We started OK, but at 1-0 down against a team of experienced professionals – they knew what it took to grind out a win. Whilst being really dominant, we never really looked threatening enough.

"I don't mean this in any disrespect because I really like them, but Charlton paid us very little respect in the first half in the way they played so high up the pitch and stopped us doing what we try to do.

"They showed real discipline and intensity to stop Scott in particular, but we've come across that so many times. And that showed a lot of respect! But it comes down to dominating your opponent and showing enough intelligence to get the better of your opponent. We didn't do that enough.

"We didn't show our teeth enough in the first half. It got better in the second half, we got into good positions out wide, but we just didn't make it count, didn't show enough sharpness and intensity.

It's frustrating for me. We have enough big players to carry us through.

"Charlton had everyone behind the ball and on occasion they counter-attacked. They didn't look threatening either, but the first goal has cost us the game."

The nature of Millar's goal was also a source of frustration for former defender Martin, who was still spitting feathers at how the Liverpool loanee was given so much space to fire past Andrew Fisher.

"I'm very angry about the goal we concede," Martin added. "I don't know why we kicked it, why we didn't recover with enough intensity, it's a mess in the box, two of them could have scored."
