Martin 'could not care less' about being bottom of the league

"We've deserved more than what we've got."

There's no escaping the look of the League One table does not make for pleasant reading for MK Dons fans as they sit bottom of the pile, but Russell Martin is not bothered by that... yet.

Picking up two points from a possible 12 so far, the Dons boss believes his side have deserved more from the season so far. But having gone behind in each of their league games, Dons' points total leaves them adrift at the foot of the 24 teams, albeit just four games in.

For Martin though, he says the table means nothing at this stage, but if Dons are still in the drop zone in 10 games time, he will be far more concerned.

"At the moment, I could not care less about league position," he said. "If we're there in 10 games time, my opinion will be different but we won't be.

"I trust what we're doing, we have to tweak things and adapt of course, but we're doing something I believe in. For me, it points to us being successful. It will take time, and that's proving to be the case. We've still got players coming back to fitness and others adapting to how we play. We're getting closer to where we are trying to get to.

"But we're still suffering two problems – we are struggling to take our chances and score goals, and the other is individual errors leading to goals. If we can cut those out, we will be in a better position. We're four games in. We've deserved more than what we've got."

With their last league win coming in February against Bolton prior to the curtailing of the 2019/20 season, Martin admits a league win is desperately needed - although they picked up a victory against Stevenage on Tuesday in the EFL Trophy.

He said: "Once one win comes, the rest will follow. I'm looking for a performance and hopefully we get three points from it because we've deserved more than we have got. We've won in the cups, won away from home on Tuesday night and drew with the team with some of the best form in the league.

"There's some frustration, but when we win a game, we will be difficult to stop. It has to start somewhere so we're going down there to win."
