Russell Martin had hoped his side would eventually put it all together and hammer a side, and they did just that on Tuesday night.

Kieran Agard and Regan Poole both scored twice, Lasse Sorensen scored his first career goal and Ste Walker netted a fine strike as Dons ran riot on Norwich U21s to win 6-0 and progress into the last 16 of the Papa John's Trophy.

After promising performances but disappointing results this season, Martin said he felt it was only a matter of time before his side put all the pieces together.

"We felt it would happen at some point – or at least we hoped they would," he said. "I missed some of the goals because I was shouting at the defence!

"We've created a lot of chances this season but we haven't had the goals to reflect that. It's something we're working on and we really committed to tonight. There were some outstanding goals and we could have had more. The composure they showed in and around the box, especially in the second half, was really good to see. To a man, we were outstanding and I'm really glad to be in the next round.

"It's an outstanding performance against strong opposition, they started really well. But it shows what we can do if we manage the game well from the start. The biggest thing for me was their relentlessness, intensity, their desire, the speed they moved the ball, their commitment to win the ball back. I'm delighted we're though and we did it in a way we deserved."
