It has been over a calendar year since MK Dons have won a game away from home, and Russell Martin is keen for that stat to end this Saturday against Crewe Alexandra.

Martin scored in Dons’ last win, the 3-0 win over Blackpool last September, but while the stat may be skewed due to the coronavirus lockdown, the fact remains Dons have suffered issues on the road.

And they have no better opportunity than to turn it around on Saturday against a Crewe side who are yet to pick up a point in their return to League One.

Martin said: “The year is a bit skewed because of the six months we didn’t play, but we need to win at home and away, picking up a lot more points away this season that’s for sure.

"We should have won the Doncaster game, and there were numerous games last season too – Lincoln and Shrewsbury – where we should have won. We went away and put in good performances.

“I’m not worried about it but it’s a stat I want to change quickly. It doesn’t play on our minds.”

The Railwayman may still be waiting to open their account this season, but Martin admits he is weary of the threats facing his side when they visit the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.

He said: "Crewe play a really good style of football, with some really good young players which they are famed for. They will adapt really well to this level, and they have an identity which they stick to. I respect how they stick to that plan too, and they have strengthened from last season.

"We need to go there and impose our game plan, and play how we want the game to pan out. We have to come away with a result. It will be tough, they all are, but we'll go there confident."
