Russell Martin said his side's 1-1 draw with League One pace-setters Rotherham is the biggest since he took over as manager of MK Dons.

Freddie Ladapo fired Rotherham ahead after just 10 minutes before Rhys Healey's 12th goal of the season 11 minutes later tied things up. Ladapo and Alex Gilbey both missed excellent chances to secure the points one way or the other, but for Martin, a point against the table-toppers was huge.

"It's the biggest point we've had since I took over," he said. "It's a battling point, it's a brilliant point against a team top of the league and very good at what they do. It wasn't as pretty, style-wise, but in these conditions against a team that have worked on trying to stop us, it was really pleasing.

"We came up against something different today and we answered every question put to them. We could have had all three at the end. There were 'ooo and ahh' moments, but we defended superbly. To me, the mentality we have shows we can compete. Today was a tougher test than Tuesday (where Dons lost 3-1 to Portsmouth), so to come away with a point, I'm delighted."

Having picked up four points from their last three games, which included road trips to both Rotherham and Portsmouth, who are yet to lose at home all season, Martin said the turnaround is certainly one he would have taken two weeks ago.

He added: "A couple of weeks ago, I would have. The Portsmouth result is disappointing and Alex's chance late on would have been icing on the cake.

These were our toughest we've had in a long time, especially away. Our mentality is to try and win every game. But to get a point here today is huge for us. We're building momentum all the time, we're showing different sides of our game, different characteristics too."
