"It goes way beyond football," said Russell Martin after a difficult week for both MK Dons and this weekend's opponents Wycombe Wanderers.

The Chairboys' game against Blackpool was marred by the death of fan Mark Bird, who died at Adams Park ahead of the game. And following their 2-1 win over Rochdale, Dons fan Chris Saunders suffered a heart-attack, and is now in recovery.

"It's hugely sad that people have gone to see their football club and it's ended like that," said Dons boss Martin. "There were two really bad incidents at both clubs on Tuesday night and unfortunately at Wycombe, Mark lost his life which is tragic. I'd like to send our condolences, both from me personally and as a club, it was not nice to see after our game. Wycombe is a club where I've got a lot of friends and still know a lot of people, and it's where I started my career so it's very sad.

"And there was an incident on Tuesday night here as well, but fortunately for Chris and his family, he's come through and fingers crossed, we get to see him in when he's in recovery. We'll take a few of the lads to see him."
