Having signed Carlton Morris, Ben Gladwin and Louis Thompson so far, while offloading Brennan Dickenson to Exeter City, Martin said he is expecting a long day on Friday, with the window closing at 11pm, but could not predict whether he will be adding new faces or giving up members of his squad.

“It changes by the minute,” he said. “I don’t know what will happen before Friday. We could end up with a new player, we could end up with two, we could lose one or two. I’ll probably have some texts on my phone now!

“We’ve had targets we’ve lost out on, we still have targets, there are players of interest – we’ll just have to see how it all pans out.

“I’m sure it’s exciting for people watching, but it’s not exciting for me – it’s hard work!”
