After picking up their first win of the season, Russell Martin was a happy man, but he wanted more goals from his side.

Cameron Jerome and Carlton Morris did the business for Dons as they saw off Gillingham 2-0. Both strikers though could have come off with another goal each, as could Joe Mason and Daniel Harvie in what could have turned into a rout against Steve Evans' side.

The win lifted Dons off the foot of the table before the rest of League One kicked off, and picking up their first victory was a weight off Martin's mind.

"I'm really pleased, we were great," he said. "My only frustration really is not scoring more goals. We deserved more. We're off, it's our first win and we need to make sure it's the start of something. We thoroughly deserved it. We had four one-on-ones, Gillingham had one shot, we dominated the second half and we deserved the win.

"In the first half, I don't think our performance has been as great has it has been in recent weeks. We knew Gillingham would make it really difficult, but I felt we let them dictate how the game went a little too much.

"We scored and got a bit anxious, which I understand. We've not been in that position for a long time. I told them they had a choice to make: turn it into a game to enjoy or to let it go like the first half where they were anxious. I'm so proud of how they reacted though."

Ahead of a busy week, which sees Dons on the road at Oxford United on Tuesday night and then Blackpool next Saturday, a win was exactly what the doctor ordered for Martin and his players.

"I'm hoping it relaxes us," the manager continued. "I trust in what we're doing, we've got a group who believe in what we're doing and they've been frustrated, and I hope they've lost that frustration too, and everyone else outside the building too. We have to make sure we make this count.

"We've got two big away days coming up, and we've got to get points on the board."
