With his squad looking threadbare, Russell Martin hopes to add four more faces to the MK Dons side before the transfer window is done.

Following sales of Alex Gilbey and Rhys Healey, and having released Conor McGrandles to join Lincoln City, Dons are lacking some big-impact players - a fact not lost on the Dons boss.

Needing a striker and some midfield depth, Martin admitted the club are close to bringing in a new face, and though the squad may not be ready for this weekend's Carabao Cup clash against Coventry City, he hopes to have more bodies for the season opener against Doncaster Rovers on September 12.

He said: “We’re getting close on one signing but the other couple are taking a bit longer because teams don’t want to lose good players. Hopefully, over the next couple of weeks, leading up to our first league game, we’ll have players in the building and ready to play for us.

"We’re looking to bring in a striker and also looking at a couple of midfield options. I’m pleased with the players we’ve got now but three or more four in and I’ll be happy. We’re in discussions with a few clubs – hopefully we’ll have some developments this week.”
