"If we lose our top targets, it won't be for a lack of trying"

Russell Martin admitted he will not be able to accept it if Dons fail to land a single one of their transfer targets before the window closes in October.

The Dons boss has made no secrets about his desire to land a striker to replace Rhys Healey, admitting they have made bids in excess of the club's current transfer record.

Though it is unlikely a striker will arrive in time for Saturday's League One opener against Doncaster Rovers, Martin signing one of his transfer targets will be essential before the window closes in October.

"We can't accept that no-one comes in," he said. "If we lose our top targets, it won't be for a lack of trying. But if it goes to a level beyond us financially, it's out of our hands. We're keeping plates spinning, making sure we've got our targets ready and we're prepared to make bids or to start discussions.

"It wouldn't be the the worst thing (to miss out on top targets), as long as we land the next target. If we didn't land anybody, I'd not be happy at all. And everyone would feel that way."
