Joe Mason was quick to downplay his goal after Dons conceded late to lose 2-1 to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Mason had missed a great chance early in the game before the home side fell behind to a shocking penalty decision after 10 minutes when Jorge Grant converted from the spot.

The striker though would make amends by rolling in Dons' equaliser just before the hour mark, before Tom Hoppers' header won it for the Imps with 12 minutes to go.

"It doesn't really matter about getting the goal, first and foremost it's about the result," said Mason afterwards. "It's a difficult one to take because of how we played, especially in the second half. We dominated possession, and that second goal was cheap.

"We have to reassess and look at it again on Monday and see where it went wrong, but coming off the pitch it's tough to take because we deserved something from that game.

"It's early days, you can see we're playing nice stuff and it's good to watch but we need to turn that into wins."

Mason though was pleased to get his first goal of the season, and hopes he can add to the four goals he scored for the club last season.

He added: "It's nice to get off the mark and it's a weight off my shoulders, so I can go to into the rest of the season looking to add to it.

"I know I'm going to get chances in every game, that's positive for me I'm hoping to get a big tally this year."
