A look ahead to MK Dons' clash against Luton Town

Previewing MK Dons’ home game against Luton Town at Stadium MK, kicking off at 12.30pm

For the first time in 22 years, Luton Town head to Milton Keynes to take on MK Dons.

Despite their geographical proximity, the sides have managed to avoid each other in the league since Dons’ first season in 04/05. That season saw Danny Wilson’s Dons stay up by the skin of their teeth, while Luton claimed the League One title. The Hatters claimed wins in both games, including a 4-1 win at the National Hockey Stadium.

Since then, the clubs have only crossed paths in an EFL Trophy game in 2018 at Kenilworth Road, resulting in a 3-0 win for the hosts.

This season has not been one to write home about for Dons thus far. Six draws and two defeats, including the 5-1 thumping at the hands of Reading last Saturday, see Paul Warne’s side sitting second from bottom.

Luton meanwhile picked up a much-needed win over Wycombe Wanderers last time out, seeing off the Chairboys 4-1 at Adams Park to ease pressure on boss Jack Wilshire, lifting them to 13th in the standings heading into their first game at MK1. Prior to that, Luton picked up just a point from their previous three games.

Ex-Dons loanee Devante Cole, who won promotion with the club in 2015, now calls Luton home. The 31-year-old has netted in the last three games for the Hatters.

Dons’ dangerman heading into the game remains Aaron Collins, who has nine goals to his name this season, only failing to score in three of his ten appearances this term.

Referee Martin Coy will take charge of the game. In his seven games this season, he has shown a conservative 13 yellow cards, and one red. Dons fans have seen him plenty over the years, winning four, losing three and drawing two of his nine games - the last coming in a vital 2-1 win at Shrewsbury last September. Luton meanwhile have won three out of four games he has overseen, the most recent being their EFL Trophy final win over Stockport in April.

Assistants Lee Venamore and Daniel D'Urso will run the lines with Fourth Official Sunny Singh Gill.
