George Baldock has a tremendous future at MK Dons, despite being sent out on loan to Oxford United on loan for the season.
The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at stadium:mk today (Tuesday), but has found himself third in the right-back pecking order last season before spending the latter part of the campaign on loan at the Kassam Stadium.
With Dons earning promotion to the Championship, manager Karl Robinson was reluctant to see Baldock’s chances restricted by Lee Hodson and Jordan Spence and felt a season playing regular football with Oxford would be ideal for his development, and will see him return a better player.
“I believe George has a tremendous future at this club,” he said. “We’ve got two right backs at this club. We only converted him to that position 12 months ago.
“So I want George to play a full season. Oxford are a team who will compete in League 2.
“I’d rather him be a full player than a bit part here.”
Baldock added: “I’m very excited to be able to commit my future to the club for another two years.
“I do need to play regular football and going out on loan to Oxford will give me that opportunity – it will stand me in good stead for when I come back here.”
