Barnet boss gushes over MK Dons after his side are denied victory
The Barnet boss was full of praise for his counterparts after the 2-2 draw with MK Dons
Barnet boss Dean Brennan has backed anyone who beats MK Dons in the standings this season will win League Two.
The club have spent big to put themselves in a much better position to fight for promotion this season, and find themselves fourth in the table, but only after having to come from 2-0 at The Hive on Saturday to salvage a 2-2 draw against the Bees.
A poor opening half-an-hour saw Adam Senior head Barnet ahead before Ryan Glover hook-winked Jon Mellish into fouling him in the box, allowing Mark Shelton to double the lead from the spot.
While Jack Sanders got one back before half-time, Dons looked a much better unit after the break, drawing level through Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and having chances to win the game.
Former Hemel Town boss Brennan, speaking afterwards, spoke glowingly about Dons and head coach Paul Warne, and though he felt his side did enough to warrant all three points in north London, has backed Dons to be serious title contenders.
“Anyone who finishes above them will win this title,” he said. “I was proud of us in the last ten minutes because we were under a lot of pressure against a side with a lot of pace, some really good players and a fantastic manager. Look at the bench they’ve got, bringing on Dan Crowley?! I’d love that bench!”
Despite taking two of their chances in the opening 28 minutes, Brennan was disappointed with his side’s lack of cutting edge at The Hive. Believing his side should have been out of sight come half-time, he highlighted a key moment in the first-half which let Dons off the hook.
He said: “I know 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline because you have to go after it and get a third, especially when you’re on top. All week we worked on making sure we finish our attacks, but we went from Stead not finishing at one end, to them getting their first corner and scoring from it. That’s the quality they possess.
“The standard and level of our performance deserved three points, but our end product, like it was against Notts County and Barrow, is not where is should be for us to be successful in this division. That’s where the money is. You get paid a lot of money to play football and if you can score goals you get even more.”
