5pm: POSH chairman Darragh MacAnthony has claimed he has now ended his interest in Dons pair Sam Baldock and Stephen Gleeson after having ‘record breaking’ bids turned down.
“I’m never happy at failing to land certain targets but we respect MK’s decision and move on,” he said on social network site Twitter.
“It’s not the end of world and we’ll go for other options now. The bid would have smashed both clubs’ transfer records for buying and selling a player. We will now move on to other targets as this double bid was final offer.
“I wish Pete (Winkelman) and their gaffer all the best in aiming for promotion next year.”
The Citizen understands Dons turned down around £1 million for Baldock – similar to the amount they received for Keith Andrews who was sold to Blackburn in 2008.
4pm: A SOURCE close to Sam Baldock has claimed Dons have turned down an offer of nearly £1 million for the striker.
Dons have rejected two separate bids for Baldock and midfielder Stephen Gleeson today (Thursday).
Posh originally saw an offer of £600,000 for 22-year-old Baldock rejected earlier this month, and it’s believed they returned with a significantly improved bid – thought to be around £1 million.
3pm: IT’S now becoming clear that Peterborough have made two offers – one for Sam Baldock and another for Stephen Gleeson. However, both bids have been rejected by Dons.
2.30pm: DONS have rejected an offer from Peterborough to sign Sam Baldock and Stephen Gleeson. A statement released from the club has confirmed another offer from Posh, but the details are still sketchy.
The statement from Dons said: “MK Dons can confirm the club has received increased interest in Sam Baldock as well as a bid for Stephen Gleeson. Once again the terms are not acceptable and have been rejected.”
2pm: IT’S being reported that Peterborough United have made an offer to sign Dons pair Sam Baldock and Stephen Gleeson.
Posh have already had an offer – thought to be £600,000 plus add-ons – for striker Baldock rejected, but are believed to have returned with another bid, this time including midfield ace Gleeson.
The pair played key roles in Dons’ League One play-off semi final clash against Peterborough, with Gleeson unfairly sent off in the first leg before having his red card rescinded in time to play at London Road.
The Citizen also understand that Baldock was at stadium:mk this afternoon to discuss the bid.
