Karl Robinson has hinted that MK Dons will make a move for Aston Villa’s Samir Carruthers.
The talented midfielder was part of Dons’ squad for the first part of last season, but saw his tenure at the club cut short with a knee injury, picked up in the FA Cup third round replay against Wigan at stadium:mk.
His car was spotted in the car park before Dons’ final pre-season game against Leicester City on Monday night, sparking rumours of a return to the club, and those rumours gathered pace after the game as Robinson admitted he’d love to bring him back.
“Samir is someone I think is a top, top player. I’m not going to rule it out, but I’m not going to tell you I’ve done a deal either. He’s someone I’d love to bring to the club on a permanent deal.
“And when you see the team tonight, and the number of young players, he’d certainly add quality.
“I know he was here, but nothing is done.
“I’ve got most of the players I want now though. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Someone who did sign on the dotted line though was Benik Afobe. The Arsenal striker joins Robinson’s side on a season-long loan, and looked at home at the top of the attacking trio.
The 21-year-old, who has had loan spells at Huddersfield and Bolton amongst others, has been on Robinson’s radar for a while, and the manager was pleased to add another option up front.
“Benik is someone I’ve been trying to get to the club, and he should be playing higher. He could be a real top player. Sometimes, we don’t play forward enough. And now we have a player who can do that.”
But while Dons’ pre-season campaign ended with a 2-0 defeat to Leicester on Monday night, Robinson was pleased with how his side performed.
“I thought it was a really good challenge,” he said. “It was a really good test. It was even in the first half, but in the second half there was a bit more cut and thrust about us. In the first half, we didn’t get forward enough.”
