Members of Chesterfield’s board told Karl Robinson they believe they can beat his MK Dons side if they meet in the play-offs.
The Dons boss crossed paths with the Spireites’ top brass at the Football League Awards on Sunday night when he was told his side were the preferred choice in the play-offs for Paul Cook’s men.
Dons have lost three times to Chesterfield this season, all at home, while they were 1-0 winners at the Proact Stadium back in August.
Robinson admitted he doesn’t care about who his side may take on in the play-offs with his mind still fully focussed on securing automatic promotion. However if the sides are to meet on May 7, he says the words will be used as an enormous source of motivation for his players.
“Some of their staff were telling me on Sunday night they want us in the play-offs because they think we can beat us,” he said. “We’re not worried by the play-offs.
“I want to go up, I don’t care who I play. We’ll take every challenge. It’s from someone on their board and it’s not right. But you should say nothing and smile.
“But don’t you worry, those words will go up on my dressing room wall if the opportunity comes around.
“We’ll see. We could still be dancing on the pitch on May 3 - we could also be dancing on the pitch against Chesterfield.”
