The interim boss is facing a shortage of firepower

MK Dons could be faced with a striker shortage for the next few weeks.

Ellis Harrison looks set to miss the next three games after his straight red card against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, while Matt Dennis has only made two substitute appearances all season, and has not been seen since the 1-0 win over Walsall two weeks ago.

Callum Hendry meanwhile looks set for a spell on the sidelines too. The former Salford man has been the first choice to lead the line all season thus far, but speaking after the game, Lewington confirmed the 26-year-old would be missing for at least next Saturday’s game at Bromley and the trip to Harrogate three days later, and potentially even longer.

It means responsibility to lead the line for Dons will fall on the shoulders of Middlesbrough teenager Sonny Finch, who made his first start for the club last Tuesday in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy against Colchester, or potentially Tommy Leigh who can also play up top should he need to.

“It's never easy is it! There's always something,” said Lewington, after taking charge of only his fourth game as interim manager. “Cal is injured, I'm not sure on the extent of it, but I don't imagine he'll be back for next Saturday.

“We've got Tommy Leigh who can play there as well. It's the challenges of the season, you won't always get your perfect 11. But we've got plenty of players with enough quality that can come in and do something.”
