Dons got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start with a routine 6-0 victory over St James’ Gate on Monday night.

The Leinster Senior League side proved no match for Karl Robinson’s men, with two first half goals, and four in the second completing the scoring.

Robinson was able to use 22 different players on the night, with valuable minutes for the likes of Dean Bowditch, Lee Hodson and Darren Potter having missed the latter stages of last season through injury.

Dele Alli continued where he left off last season, netting both first half goals, firing Dons ahead after two minutes, and doubling the lead after 25 minutes.

After eight changes at half time, new signing Tom Hitchcock put the result to bed just after the hour mark, before Giorgio Rasulo staked his claim for a more regular first team role with a fourth two minutes later.

Harry Hickford came close to adding a fifth when his strike hit the post, before second-year scholar Kabongo Tshimanga converted a penalty to make it 5-0.

Kyran Wiltshire added a sixth two minutes from the end to complete the rout.

Dons are next in action tonight, Tuesday, against Drogheda United.
