MK DONS could be about to sign Huddersfield Town defender Antony Kay – a rumour that has come to light after Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore accidently let slip in a press conference.

Moore had hoped to recruit the centre back for his own side, but talking to reporters he said that the deal had fallen through because the 29-year-old had chosen a move to Milton Keynes instead.

“Antony Kay was another one that we’ve knocked on the door and tried to do,” said Moore. “But he has gone to MK Dons – or is going to MK Dons tomorrow.

“Mind you, I probably shouldn’t have let that out should I?”

Kay, who has also played in midfield, made 31 appearances for League One Huddersfield last season and is thought to have one year left on his contract.
