Dowie predicts a midtable finish in League One for MK Dons

The ex-Palace and Hull manager has predicted a safe finish for MK Dons next season

Former EFL boss Iain Dowie is predicting a midtable finish for MK Dons next season.

Having secured promotion back to League One by finishing second in League Two last time out, Paul Warne’s side return to the third tier for the first time in three years.

CEO Neil Hart said he and the board are expecting a challenge for at least the play-offs next season, with the head coach well versed in getting sides out of the league, having done so with both Rotherham United and Derby County.

Having seen sides like Wrexham, Stockport County and Bradford City all fight at the sharp end after going up from League Two, Dons will be targeting the top six with the right recruitment.

While backing Warne to succeed again with Dons though, Dowie, who was speaking to Betano Casino, reckons finishing midtable is where expects to see the side finish.

“With the right backing, I think Paul Warne is great,” said the former Crystal Palace, Hull and Charlton Athletic boss. “At Rotherham, he was always under pressure, but I like the way he goes about things. He’s a good fellow and very intense. Promotion was fully deserved.

“I like him as a manager. His teams are disciplined, well-organised at set pieces, and have good energy. He works them hard, and that will help.

“They are finally delivering on their potential. Milton Keynes is a growing city and the pressure is building every year.

“League One is a big step up, but Paul knows this level very well. I think they’ll be mid-table.”
