Goode hopes home truths amongst players will kick MK Dons into life
Defender Charlie Goode said there was a lot of personal accountability taken after the defeat last Saturday
The MK Dons players held themselves to account after Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Reading, but are keen to put it behind them and move on.
The miserable afternoon at Stadium MK last time out resulted in the heaviest league defeat in Paul Warne’s tenure, and was riddled with individual errors and poor performances culminating in the drubbing.
Defender Charlie Goode, the only one of the back three to play the full 90 minutes, said the players themselves led the post-mortem, dishing out some home truths when the squad came back to work earlier this week in the lead up to this weekend’s game against Luton Town.
“It’s always a tough week after a result like that,” he said. “You want to get over it as quickly as possible, but there have been some home truths as well. All players like to do that, take responsibility for what they’ve done wrong and we have done that this week.
“We don’t want to be sitting here talking about anything like that ever again so we’ve got to make sure we do all we can to get a positive result.
“We were all extremely disappointed in what we put out there. We’ve got to start delivering what the manager wants.”
Aside from the manner of the defeat to the Royals, Goode admitted Dons’ lack of a League One win this season is also beginning to loom large over the squad.
He continued: “The longer the weeks go on, the more it’s a talking point we all keep coming back to. As soon as we clear it, it gives us a bit of confidence. There are games we should have won, games we could have lost as well.
“As soon as we get one, I think we’ll put a good run together. That’s all it can take, teams wait for a win and then go and get two, three. There is no reason why we can't do that but the sooner the better because it will take everyone’s mind off it.
“If we can go out and put in a performance for a full 90 minutes, we’re good enough to go on and win games.”
