Dean Lewington said he was proud to bring up his 600th appearance for MK Dons.
The 31-year-old skipper marked the occasion against Nottingham Forest at stadium:mk on Saturday, but the 2-1 loss was hardly the scoreline he wanted.
Despite the defeat, Lewington said he was pleased to reach the landmark.
He said: “There are so many ways to count - with Wimbledon, without, league games, starts...
“I didn’t realise until I was told just before the game. It’s always nice to reach another milestone.
“It’s nice that I get to do something I love doing.”
The season ended in relegation for Dons, but Lewington says there’s no time to dwell on what might have been.
He added: “We have to draw a line under the season. There are lessons to be learned but there’s nothing we can do about it now.”
