TODAY’S game between MK Dons and Carlisle United has been called off due to a frozen pitch.
Freezing overnight temperatures cast doubt over the game, with a layer of frost covering the stadium:mk pitch.
Referee Darren Sheldrake twice checked that conditions were playable – once at 12.30pm and again at 1.45pm before declaring that conditions were unplayable.
He said: “After looking at the pitch at 12.30pm, and then again at 1.45pm the pitch was frozen in one specific area in midfield and we could not ensure player safety on the frozen pitch.”
The late call meant most of the travelling Carlisle support were already at the ground. As a result, chairman Pete Winkelman agreed to put on a special lunch for the fans.
Next up for Dons is Tuesday night’s finely poised FA Cup third round replay against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
The rearranged game will add to Dons’ already congested fixture list, with the side playing Saturday-Tuesday throughout January.
