Midfielder Wiles completes Dons move from Huddersfield Town

The midfielder becomes MK Dons’ first signing of the January window

MK Dons have completed their first signing of the January transfer window with the capture of Huddersfield Town midfielder Ben Wiles.

The 26-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Terriers in League One this season, netting three goals. He comes as no stranger to head coach Paul Warne, having played nearly 200 games for him at Rotherham prior to his move to West Yorkshire in 2023.

A permanent signing, midfielder Wiles said his relationship with the head coach helped sway his decision to drop a division to sign for Dons and help them in their quest for promotion this season.

“I’m really happy to get it done,” he said. “Obviously, people know that I've worked with the gaffer before, and when this opportunity came around, it was something I was really eager to get sorted.

“He knows how to get a team ticking, and how to win. So that's a big factor as to why I wanted this move to happen. Not only is he a good manager, but he's also a good person, so I know he'll get the best out of me and the lads.

“It was a bit of a quick turnaround, but that's football, and I'm glad now I've got it sorted.”

While he has dropped to League Two from being a regular in the third tier, Wiles said the ambitions of the club peaked his interests to want to be a part of the project moving forwards.

He continued: “Just the challenge and the potential of where the club can go. It's just looking in one direction and wants to get back to where it deserves to be. And I want to be a part of that, it’s a club that's thriving, and I want to be on that journey!”
