When it rains, it pours... Zak Jules was found guilty on video evidence of violent conduct in the 1-0 defeat to Port Vale last week, leaving MK Dons cut back to... what’s barer than barebones? Three matches he’ll now sit out, along with two more for Jonathan Leko after his ban was dished out last week.

Mark Jackson was critical of these incidents, and said he has made it clear to his players that those sorts of things are not acceptable in his side.

Could Dean Lewington be back in contention?

The skipper has been out of action since November with a hamstring injury, which required surgery, but the man, the myth, the legend could be back in contention to play this afternoon, especially with Dons’ shortage in defence.

The talk has to stop now, according to Tennai Watson. MK Dons need points, and the fans aren’t willing to hear anything else.

“People don't want to hear the cliches,” he said. “But as a group, all we can do is stick together, work hard, look at things and reassess. It's obvious we haven't been good enough, and looking back at that, reflecting and moving fowards is the aim for all of us.

“From a personal stand-point, I want to sit here all day and tell you we need the fans, and we're playing out of our skin for the fans, but no-one wants to hear that until it's done. And I think that's fair. All the boys know that.

“Action is results, and that has to be the next step. Game-day is where it matters.”

They're in the same boat as us, so we know these next games are really important. Teams around us will be feeling exactly the same as us.

I watched them against Morecambe on Tuesday - they're in a team in the same position as us, and play a formation where we believe we can deal with their threats, and exploit where we feel they have weakness. But they're a team fighting for their lives.

Cambridge’s team to face MK Dons

Let’s go. Cambridge get the game underway

6 mins: Patient start

Not a lot to say in these opening six minutes. Neither have have really done a lot, not really a prolonged period of possession, not a sniff of a dangerous attack.

Just patience.

12 mins: More of the same

The clock is flying by, and still nothing really to say. The Cowshed trying to get some songs going but not a lot of others are taking them up on an afternoon of karaoke.

13 mins: Cambridge with a chance

Cambridge counter and get in behind, Lankester is through on goal but Watson gets back and between himself and Cumming, deny U’s from taking the lead

15 mins: Have a go...

Oh Dawson Devoy, why’ve you not shot?! A brilliant bit of football from Grant finds Holland on the left, the ball is pulled back to Devoy who skips past a tackle but he doesn’t shoot, instead it bounces around and wins a corner, which amounts to nowt

18 mins: Another Devoy chance

Eisa breaks the offside trap, back to Grant who rolls it to Devoy who this time does have a go, but he loops it harmlessly over the bar

28 mins: No penalty

Conor Grant gets on the end of a neat ball over the top, gets it stuck under his feet then tumbles to the deck in slow motion. Was never going to win a pen for that.

Just because he’s back on the field again, no need for tribute Lewingtons

30 mins: Lewington with a shot?!

Why not skip? Up for a corner, the ball makes it his way, about 30 yards out, Lewington eyes one up and lets fly from range but it’s wide of the mark
