Player ratings vs Gillingham: Smith stands out in defence

Player ratings vs Gillingham.

David Martin - 7 - Battled bravely on despite a big injury. Could have done more to keep out Hollands’ header.

Dean Lewington - 7 - Back against the wall from the early stages, but added to the attack vitally in the fightback.

Shaun Williams - 8 - Fought brilliantly to keep Gillingham at bay. Never lost his cool.

Tom Flanagan - 5 - Left his side in an almost impossible position, giving away two penalties and being sent off after 12 minutes.

Lee Hodson - 6 - Did nothing wrong, but was sacrificed in Robinson’s early reshuffle.

Samir Carruthers - 6 - Like Hodson, was sacrificed early.

Danny Green - 7 - Silly booking for diving, but looked a threat from set pieces.

Stephen Gleeson - 7 - Put in the miles in midfield, and battled hard.

Darren Potter - 7 - Pulled the strings, even up against the wall.

Luke Chadwick - 6 - Seems to have lost his first touch and gave the ball away all too often.

Patrick Bamford - 8 - Took his goals well, but should have had a hat-trick for the second week running.

Alan Smith - 9 - Brilliant display, arguably his best in a Dons shirt. Playing out of position, he won everything in his direction. Was touted as Martin’s replacement should the keeper hobble off.

Izale McLeod - 8 - Sparked Dons’ fight back and created a few changes of his own, as well as for Bamford.

Daniel Powell - 6 - With Dons tiring and the game ebbing away, he couldn’t make much of an impact. Valuable minutes under the belt though.
