Player ratings Vs Kettering: Shaun shows his midfield class

editorial image

David Martin - 7 - barely tested, and was a spectator for most of the game. Made a great stop late in the first half, his only action

Dean Lewington - 6 - enjoyed romping forward, but was hardly required in his usual defensive role. Was taken off on the hour mark

Gary MacKenzie - 6 - like Lewington, barely had to break sweat and played the opening hour. Caught napping in the penalty area to create Kettering’s best chance.

Tom Flanagan - 8 - in control throughout. Looked sharp, aware and even stretched his long legs with a rare break into the opposition half

Mathias Doumbe - 7 - his usual cool, collected performance. Shifted from right back to centre back when the subs came on

Darren Potter - 7 - barked out orders to his team-mates, showed deft touches and pulled all the strings in the first half

Stephen Gleeson - 7 - probably covered more ground than anyone in the first half, helping out in defence as well as in the attack. Had a couple of half chances which he could have done better with

Shaun Williams - 9 - the star performer. Impressive alongside Gleeson and Potter, but took over the reins in the second half. Tried an audacious shot from halfway which dropped just wide

Daniel Powell - 7 - had the skill to take on and beat everyone in the Kettering side. Forced the keeper to work in the first half

Dean Bowditch - 6 - most of the first half action took place on the opposite flank, isolating last season’s top scorer. Made way on the hour

Charlie MacDonald - 6 - made smart runs in behind the Kettering defence, but saw little of the ball in the penalty area

Jordan Ivey-Ward - 6 - didn’t see much of the ball, but neither did the rest of the defence in the second half

Adam Chicksen - 6 - tried to get involved with the attacks, but wasn’t tested defensively

Charlie Collins - 6 - looked confident on the ball after netting in pre-season tour of Ireland. Looked capable in a deeper role than we’re used to seeing him

Luke Chadwick - 6 - returning from injury sooner than expected. Pleased to get a run out and getting closer to full fitness

Jabo Ibehre - 7 - used his power to hold up the ball well. Came closest with a shot that hit the post

Deon Burton - 6 - could’ve won a penalty, should’ve scored the only goal of the game too. Made a nuisance of himself in the penalty area. Did his chances of a permanent deal no harm.
