Promotion was ambition achieved for MK Dons, says Scottish legend McCoist

MK Dons missed out on the title by a single point

Legendary Scottish striker Ally McCoist has said MK Dons should not be too downhearted about missing out on the League Two title.

Paul Warne’s side were narrowly edged out on the final day of the season, leapfrogged by Bromley who beat Walsall while Dons were held by Fleetwood, handing the title to the Ravens.

Both sides went into the final day of the season knowing their futures would be in League One, with the championship the ‘cherry on the icing on a delicious cake’ according to the Dons head coach.

Last month, former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan said Dons will not be too perturbed should they miss out on lifting the trophy at the end of the season assuming they had their promotion sealed.

And though the side from MK1 missed out on their first league title since 2008, Scotland and Rangers legend McCoist, speaking to talkSPORT Casino Bet said there won’t be much sleep lost over coming second by the time the season kicks off again.

“MK Dons won’t care about not winning the title,” he said. “You want to go up as the champions, let's not kid ourselves on.

“But if you've got automatic promotion, that's achieved, that's your target that is achieved.”
