Rangers legends backs MK Dons in League Two promotion race

The experts have spoken about the League Two promotion race

Scottish legend Ally McCoist believes MK Dons will finish in the top three in League Two this season.

Paul Warne’s side sit third in the division after their last-gasp 1-1 draw with fellow promotion chasers Cambridge United on Saturday, but lost ground to leaders Bromley following their 2-1 win over Accrington.

With Dons now on a ten-game unbeaten run McCoist, who scored more than 350 goals for Rangers, thinks momentum will be critical during the run-in and he backs Dons to go up automatically.

He told talkSPORT BET Casinos: “Paul Warne had a brilliant result on Monday, a 2-0 win at Walsall. Swindon were beaten at the weekend. You talk about the Championship, and they’re all capable of beating each other. It's incredible and the same in League Two.

“Bromley are up there at the top, they are flying, by the way. Cambridge are flying. I would say now is the perfect time to hit peak form and go on a run, but I just think about the quality and the very small gap between those sides.

“If I was a betting man, I'd probably say with a bit of momentum, yes, they'll go up automatically. But hey, it's a tough one. It really is a tough one. Really tough to call.”

EFL pundit Don Goodman also weighed in on the promotion fight in the fourth tier, calling it ‘bonkers’ even at this late stage.

Speaking to Grosvenor Casinos, the ex-Wolves striker said: “When you look at the table now, it's bonkers in League Two, it's just nuts really. It is an almighty scrap to get the top three positions.

“When you look at MK Dons as a football club, you look at the resources, you look at the manager, you look at the group of players that they have, they're of much better quality and experience than League Two.

“Bromley, I mean, that is an incredible story and an incredible job that Andy Woodman is doing. Neil Harris obviously has a wealth of experience and has got Cambridge going. Ian Holloway, again, the same at Swindon. Notts County are flying.”
