Robbo backs McLeod to bounce back after Portsmouth howlers

Karl Robinson has backed Izale McLeod to bounce back after he missed two sitters in the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park.

Making his return to his former stomping ground, McLeod struggled to make a positive impression, much to the delight of the Portsmouth fans in attendance.

After mis-hitting a decent chance into the stand early in the second half, his best chance came two minutes later, but he seemed to watch it drift out of play when a touch would have taken it in.

“Only Izale will know what happened there,” said Robinson after the game. “But strikers go through patches like this where nothing is falling for them. When one goes in, they’ll start flowing nicely.

“He’s a great lad, but he’s snatching at things.

“There was a lot of expectation on him today returning here, but I know it’ll make him a better player.”

But despite only drawing with the side rock bottom and without a win since October 2012, Robinson was pleased with his side’s performance.

Without really creating much, Dons penned Portsmouth into their own territory for much for the second half.

But the draw sees Dons just 13th in the table, and left Robinson lamenting the lack of luck his side have had in the last three matches.

He said: “We’ve had three games we should have won now. I’ve got no issues with the performance tonight though. It’s just not falling for us at the moment.

“We passed the ball well. My frustration recently has been that when things haven’t been working, we’ve been going route one. We persevered, we passed and moved, and we were by far the better team.”
