Robbo 'didn't get the chance to say goodbye'

Robinson spent more than six years in the top job at Stadium MK before leaving 'by mutual consent' after losing 3-0 to Southend last month.

While the 36-year-old said he has no regrets over his time in charge, he felt he deserved more in the manner in which he left.

"I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to people - I just went into my office, threw some stuff in a bin bag and walked out in a very cold way," he said. "I felt I deserved a bit more than that.

"You have to respect the decision of the boss. It was a decision he felt was right, and it was never one for me to make. I wish I'd had the opportunity to change where we were. But it wasn't to be."

In 20th place in League 1 and without a win at home for 13 matches, Robinson still expects the team he put together, under new management, will achieve success this season but feels the club's ambitions are ones he achieved in his time.

He said: "I wouldn't say the club is in trouble. I know the players will achieve something this year, 100 per cent. And I look forward to watching them do it.

"I'm sure they'll find the right person to take them on. I don't know who will go in or what's happening. People keep asking me but I'm hardly likely to be told.

"I know what they want - they want promotion and to be in the Championship. But it's everything my staff and I have already achieved. My dream would have been to leave in the top 10 in the Championship. That would've been my ceiling. I think we all made a lot of mistakes last season.

"We all knew when we were promoted that we'd find it really hard in the Championship. But I found it to be a learning curve for this year, but we didn't get a chance to implement that.

"I wouldn't say it was difficult, but it was a knock on the confidence. I think we overachieved. We have created a hype and expectation that's higher than ever before but we didn't live up to that.

"I wanted to get the club out the league I still know I could have done it. But decisions were made by people who felt it was right for the club. I hold no regrets over what I've done."
