Strikers Nicky Maynard and Tommy Smith are training with MK Dons after Karl Robinson failed to land a new front man on transfer deadline day.
Last Tuesday’s deadline passed without incident for Dons, though Robinson failed in a bid to bring in a new man to lead the line.
Maynard, 28, was released by Cardiff City in the summer but made his name at Crewe and Bristol City.
Smith, now 35, will be most recognised as a Watford player, having netted 60 times for the Hornets during two spells at Vicarage Road. He left Brentford in the summer.
Neither Simon Church nor Sam Gallagher have scored for Dons this season, prompting Robinson to try everything he can to find someone to hit the ground running. However, he made no promises with regards to Maynard and Smith.
“Tommy Smith and Nicky Maynard are out there training with us to get their fitness up,” said Robinson. “We’re trying everything we can.
“We’ve had a difficult week. We didn’t get in the striker we wanted on deadline day. We put in a lot of effort. We hear people saying what we need, and of course we know.
“We’re looking at different players, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult, though the ones we wanted were in the transfer window.”
