Karl Robinson has reiterated his desire to sign striker Will Grigg in the summer.
The on-loan Brentford man has scored nine in nine as Dons’ unbeaten record was stretched to eight games with the 6-1 thumping of Leyton Orient on Saturday - a win which moved Dons to within a point of Preston in the final League 1 automatic promotion spot.
Scoring from the penalty spot in the first half, Grigg netted his 21st goal of the season - a remarkable feat considering he was considered the second striker during the first half of the campaign, while playing with Benik Afobe.
But since Afobe’s departure to Championship side Wolves in January, Grigg has stepped up to taken on the mantle of Dons’ leading man.
And with the fans calling for the board to ‘sign him up’, Robinson hears and agrees with the voices in the stands.
“We hear the fans, and we agree with them,” he said. “We know how talented he is.
“We’d 100 per cent like him here next season, but he’s not our player. And if you ask a lot of teams in the Championship, they’d want Will Grigg as well.
“He’s a man in demand, obviously, he’s scored 21 goals. The rotation system has obviously helped him a lot.
“He has been incredible. How he has conducted himself has been impeccable. To play the way he has after Benik left has been incredible.”
