CHAMPIONSHIP strugglers Barnsley await MK Dons in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a dramatic 4-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday. And it’s a draw Karl Robinson is delighted with.

After watching his side make history by dumping out Harry Redknapp’s Premier League stars and making it through to the fifth round for the first time, the Dons boss watched on as they were drawn at home to Barnsley – a team currently languishing in the Championship drop zone.

And while fans may have been unmoved by the tie – when far more glamorous ones were a real possibility – Robinson believes it offers Dons a great chance to progress even further in the competition.

“It’s a great tie for both of us,” he said. “It’s a tie that both players and staff will think they can win.

“It’s a fantastic chance for ourselves and Barnsley to get into the quarter finals. It feels a bit weird saying ‘quarter finals of the FA Cup’ because that really is history in the making fir this team.

“Barnsley will see it as a winnable game too, away at a League 1 side. We want to go as far as we can in this competition. I understand that the chairman might want a headline tie because it could mean in excess of £1 million to get one of these big teams away.

“But I want to get as far as I can in the FA Cup and it’s games like this that could allow that. I’m over the moon with the draw.”

The match at stadium:mk will take place on the weekend of February 16/17, meaning the scheduled League 1 game with Swindon will be rescheduled.
