After netting twice against Peterborough on Tuesday night, Dons boss Karl Robinson admitted he called Sam Baldock to see if he wanted to finish the season at stadium:mk.

The 24-year-old fired his Bristol City side to a 2-1 victory at London Road as the continue their climb away from the League 1 relegation zone.

But while it looks likely that the Robins will be playing League 1 football again next season, Robinson thought he’d test the waters and see if he could tempt him back to Dons.

“I asked him if he wanted to come back for the rest of the season,” Robinson said.

And the answer?

“No! But we have to start looking at these sorts of players. We need a known goal scorer.

“We’re searching the leagues to find a team who aren’t in the play-offs, who aren’t in a relegation battle, to try and get one of their strikers to help us out - at any level.

“There are fund available, so we have to go and find what we can. We’ll have to find something to bolster the squad.”

Dons are still waiting on international clearance for Mark Randall. Having spend time with Ascoli in Italy this season, the 24-year-old, who spent time at stadium:mk in 2010 on loan from Arsenal, must wait for FIFA clearance before he can be added to Robinson’s squad.

He said: “We are still awaiting international clearance for him, and he’d be a good one to have on the bench on Saturday.

“He has been training well and has tremendous quality.”
