The key attribute Warne wants to add at MK Dons before the Oxford game

The head coach hopes he can get another player in before the Oxford game on Saturday

Adding more pace to the squad is high on Paul Warne’s wishlist for players he wants to bring in before the close of the transfer window.

Having brought in six players so far this summer, the MK Dons head coach is pretty satisfied with the business the club has conducted thus far, but still has his eyes on a few more additions before the close.

A goalkeeper, some support for Cohen Bramall at left-back and a ‘maverick’ in the attacking region are all still on Warne’s ideal world list with the season looming this Saturday against Oxford United.

With the clock ticking down towards that League One opener though, the head coach said he would love to bring in at least one more before the trip to the Kassam Stadium, singling out the key attribute he wants.

“I’d like to think we’ll have more in (before Oxford),” he said. “We need a bit more pace. I love pace and I think that’s what we’re endeavouring to do.”

With seven senior players making up the nine on the bench at Norwich at the weekend, and the likes of Kane Wilson, Alex Gilbey, Will Collar and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy all closing in on returns from injury, Warne said he has plenty of proven players to choose from should they not bring in further additions.

Speaking after the 4-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Carrow Road, he said: “If we take this group to Oxford next week, I’m really confident we’ll put on a display. In games like this though, it does show we’re not as neat as we’d like to be when it comes to set-pieces, throw-ins.

“We might get some fresh faces this week, but if we don’t, we’ve still got a lot of senior pros to pick from.”
