The rare attribute keeper Stacey is showing which has impressed Dons stopper MacGillivray
The young keeper’s desire to play is an important attribute
Shot-stopper Craig MacGillivray has been impressed by teenager Seb Stacey’s attitude towards going out on loan this season.
The 19-year-old was set to be third choice at MK Dons but having been a hit out on loan last season, Stacey’s eagerness to play regular football saw him sign for National League South side Worthing earlier this summer.
Starting both of the Rebels’ two games this season, Stacey has helped the side to four points at the start of the campaign, with a 1-1 draw against Bath City and a 4-3 thriller against Horsham.
Opting to step out of the comforts of Stadium MK, Stacey’s desire has made a mark on Dons’ number one MacGillivray, who thinks his attitude is one not many young keepers are showing.
“I like the way Seb wants to go and play games,” said MacGillivray. “As a young lad, especially nowadays, it’s sometimes an easier option to stay where you are and not play.
“He’s gone to the National League South, and for someone of his age to go and play at that level will only stand him in good stead.
“He could easily have stayed here and trained every day, but you need to be exposed to what the game really is. It’s physical, you have a lot to do and there is a lot expected of them.
“They just missed out on promotion in the play-offs, so they’re expected to be up there again. I’m buzzing for him.”
Stacey’s departure opened a spot up for another young goalkeeper to join Dons’ ranks, with Tom Finch coming in to act as further support for MacGillivray and Connal Trueman - an experience which will be invaluable to him, according to the Scot.
MacGillivray added: “Finchy too has come here, he has come for the experience as well and ultimately he will try and get into as many match day squads as he can.”
