The skipper scored a goal of the season contender from 30-yards to get the show on the road after 25 minutes, sending Dons on course for their first league win of the season.
But Jordan Clark’s equaliser with 20 minutes to go threatened Dons with yet another draw before Aaron Collins’ penalty seven minutes later ensured a win for Paul Warne’s side.
A night-and-day performance compared to last week’s defeat to Reading, here’s how we rated the players.
5. Jack Sanders - 8
A brilliant return to the side after a long spell without a league game. Put his body on the line countless times | Jane Russell
6. Eli Campbell - 7.5
Proved just as adept at wing-back as he has at centre-back | Jane Russell
7. Sam Silvera - 8
A break-out performance. Caught the eye, made up for mistakes when he occasionally made them, and always looked like he wanted to be on the front foot while dealing with the lively Palmer | Jane Russell
8. Ryan Wintle - 8
A class act and the midfield engine which kept Dons ticking over | Jane Russell
