Matthew Upson’s brief cameo appearance against Charlton Athletic may not have set his recovery back too far, despite hobbling off the field after just 39 minutes.
The defender was a calculated risk at centre back in the absence of suspended Kyle McFadzean, having missed most of the season with a calf injury.
But intensively training behind closed doors in a bid to be fit for the game, the former England man couldn’t make it to half time before being replaced by Lee Hodson.
Manager Karl Robinson though is hopeful that his medical staff have managed Upson’s injury and his brief appearance won’t have hampered his full comeback.
“He was excellent for the 38 minutes he played,” said Robinson. “It’s not gone. We managed it properly.
“We had four game plans and we knew it might happen. We could have gone to three at the back.”
