Who is MK Dons' latest signing Ben Wiles?
Find out more about MK Dons’ first January signing - Huddersfield Town midfielder Ben Wiles
Ben Wiles is no stranger to working with Paul Warne, and has reunited with his former boss again at MK Dons.
Racking up more than 13,000 minutes for the head coach, Wiles made 172 appearances for Rotherham with Warne at the helm, scoring 17 goals and making 16 assists in the process.
Born and raised in Rotherham, the 26-year-old began his career with the Millers, coming through the south Yorkshire academy.
In 2017, he was offered his first professional contract by Warne, and quickly joined non-league side Frickley Athletic on loan for a month. Not long after his return he was thrust into his first-team debut for Rotherham in the EFL Trophy.
While he had to wait for his league debut, Rotherham’s promotion to the Championship in fact saw Wiles begin to shine. Making 20 appearances for the side in the second tier, he would establish himself as a regular for Warne as Rotherham yo-yoed between League One and the Championship, running in nearly 200 games for the Millers during six seasons.
Described as a versatile midfielder, the combative Wiles can play as a box-to-box type, as well as on the right wing, and has also filled in at left-back.
Interest always followed Wiles for his performances as versatile box-to-box midfielder, and after Rotherham managed to stay in the Championship in 2022/23, the call from west Yorkshire came from Huddersfield Town where he would move for a ‘significant fee’ to the Accu Stadium.
A regular for the Terriers, he was unable to help them avoid the drop to League One. Establishing himself as a firm fixture in the side last season, Wiles netted nine goals in 51 appearances for Huddersfield, a lot of them playing alongside ex-Dons midfielder David Kasumu.
By no means out of favour at Town, Wiles has run in 28 appearances, three goals and an assist this term prior to his move to Milton Keynes.
