Get to know a bit more about MK Dons’ sixth signing of the summer

Joe Pritchard is the second player to make the switch from Accrington Stanley to MK Dons this summer.

Following fellow midfielder Tommy Leigh to MK1, the 27-year-old is the sixth signing of the window as Mike Williamson continues to rebuild the squad.

And much like Leigh, Pritchard had a productive season at the Wham Stadium despite their 17th place finish in League Two last time out. Pritchard netted seven goals and provided six assists for Stanley in his 30 appearances last term, including teeing up Shaun Whalley for the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Dons in Lancashire in October - Williamson's first game in charge.

Beginning his career at Tottenham, Pritchard did not progress to the first team, but joined Bolton Wanderers in the Championship in 2018. Game time though was limited for the midfielder, where he had to wait until late January 2019 to make his debut, and made his only start in the final game of the season against Nottingham Forest.

The following season he would make the move to Accrington where he would establish himself as a first-team regular for the next four seasons.

Injuries though have been a big feature of Pritchard's career. After suffering a knee injury during his academy days at Spurs, a hamstring injury kept him out of the majority of the 2021/22 season, but then ruptures his Achilles in December 2022, keeping him out for the next nine months. He admitted to suffering mentally as well as physically during that spell out of the game, saying he was "scared of his own company" during the lonely hours alone.

Returning to the action again in September though, Pritchard would enjoy a solid run in the side, but with his deal running out at the Wham Stadium, the midfielder turned down the option to remain in favour of a move to Stadium MK.
