Wild felt Fleetwood were on course for a point after 'completely controlling' Dons

Fleetwood boss Pete Wild felt his side were on course to get a point after pulling a goal back against MK Dons on Saturday.
Ched Evans’ 71st minute goal came after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Aaron Nemane saw Dons cruise into a 2-0 lead at Stadium MK, heading for top spot albeit for a couple of hours before the League Two fixtures later in the day.
But the visitors barely forced keeper Craig MacGillivray into a save all afternoon, with only four shots on target, and did little to force the issue in the closing 19 minutes.
“When we scored, I thought 100 pert cent we were going to get a point,” Wild said, having watched the game from the stands as he served a touchline ban. “We had chances. We just didn’t work the goalkeeper like we should have.”
“I’m a bit frustrated, really. We’ve never been outplayed, and we’ve certainly done enough to get a point out of the game. But in the first half we paid them too much respect. We let them dictate, we dropped too early, and we spent most of it just containing them. That’s frustrating.
“We defended brilliantly for long spells but both their goals come from our mistakes. Tracking runners for both goals – that’s really frustrating. I said this game was going to be about concentration for 97, 100 minutes, and out of all that time we’ve switched off for three minutes. Against a top side, that’s the difference.”
He added: “At half-time we said, ‘Let’s go. Let’s go down fighting and give them something to think about.’ And we completely controlled the second half. We spent it in their half, we had the ball, we put them under pressure. But for all the possession and all the momentum, we didn’t test their goalkeeper enough. That’s the fine margins.”
