Winning is all that matters for Tomlinson and MK Dons

Defender Joe Tomlinson spoke after MK Dons’ 3-2 win over Cheltenham on Saturday

Joe Tomlinson feels MK Dons are better equipped now than at any time during his tenure at MK1 to take the fight to the automatic promotion spots.

Paul Warne’s side moved up to fourth place in League Two on Saturday with a patchy 3-2 win over struggling Cheltenham, but extended their unbeaten run to five in the division, returning to winning ways after the 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town last week.

Tomlinson, in his third season with the club, has played through several short-lived eras in Milton Keynes and feels the current iteration of the side is best placed to mount a serious challenge for the top three with 16 games remaining.

“We’re a different team now, definitely,” he said. “It’s safe to say from when I joined and over the course of time, a lot has changed. I’ve played a part in all of it, and we’re in a winning team at the moment.

“No matter how it comes, no matter the performance, we’re getting wins and that’s all that matters. At the end of the season, that’s all that matters. We’re not going to remember the performance at the end of the season, we’re going to remember the points.

“We’ve got knowhow, we’ve got lads in there who know how to win. You can see it at the moment and long may it continue.”

After the close of the transfer window last Monday, Tomlinson, just back from an injury which kept him out for two months, said the squad got together in the week to set out their targets for the remainder of the season.

He added: “We had a meeting this week to say this is it, this is our group, this is what we’ve got. Looking around, you can see how good we are, the talent we have in the changing room.

“We have full belief and if we keep playing how we are, we will get to where we want to at the end of the season.”
